English High School Sector

The High School offers a challenging academic programme from Secondary 1 to Secondary 5 leading to the student being prepared to take his or her High School leaving exams in view of obtaining the Diplome d'Etudes Secondaires, Formation generale from the Ministere de l'Education du Quebec.

This is accomplished within the context of Christian life training that features:

  • Morning homeroom devotions at every level for 15 minutes including Bible readings and prayer.
  • Student-led assemblies featuring Bible-reading, choruses, prayer and guest speakers.
  • Assemblies marking special events in the Christian calendar.
  • Every student takes Bible as an academic course three periods a cycle, featuring the Life of Christ, the Old Testament, the New Testament and Church History, the Book of John and a critical look at world religions from a Christian perspective, the religious mosaic of Canada, Christian World View and the book of Ecclesiastes.
  • Teachers, who must fully endorse the Statement of Faith of the school, present a Christian world and life view in all of their courses. Thus, God's truth is integrated into all the curriculum. The result is that, although we follow the Ministry of Education's programme and prepare our students for Quebec High School leaving examinations, we are truly offering a Christian education at Emmanuel, from Kindergarten through to Secondary 5.

Emmanuel follows the system laid down by the Ministère de l'Éducation in its Régime Pédagogique for the Province of Quebec. The school's program features:

  • A partial immersion courses at most levels, including Education physique, Geographie generale (Sec. 1), Arts plastiques (Sec. 1 & 2), Histoire generale (Sec. 2), Geographie du Quebec et du Canada (Sec. 3), Histoire du Québec et du Canada (Sec. 4) and Enseignement moral et religieux (Sec. 4 & 5).
  • A double-stream French instruction consisting of either Français Langue d'enseignement or French Second Language according to the capabilities of the student.
  • A Science and Mathematics programme designed to prepare capable students for entry into Health Sciences or Pure and Applied Sciences at the Cegep level.
  • A strong drama program with top notch productions.
  • Annual Public Speaking contest as part of the English Language Arts curriculum. Students also compete against other QAIS schools.
  • Music has a strong presence at Emmanuel Christian School. Students can join the worship band, sing in a choir, participate in our yearly Dedication Service and sing at annual drama presentations.
  • A Science Fair for Secondary 2, 3 and Secondary 5 students following the science profile. Winners go on to the Montreal Regional Science Fair.
  • A variety of extra-curricular sports such as Badminton, Basketball, Floor Hockey, Track and Field depending on student interest.
  • An annual Art Festival featuring the talent and accomplishment of our students.
  • A trip to Europe every second year for secondary 4 and 5 students.
  • An active student council which organizes a variety of activities such as bake sales, free dress days, lunchtime activities, pizza days and more.
  • Regular assemblies featuring guests speakers, bands or our school's own worship band.
  • Local and international missions in secondary 3.
