French High School sector
Emmanuel Christian School opened a new French High School sector in September 2009 with
secondary 1 and 2 (1re et 2e secondaire). In September 2010, secondary 3 (3e secondaire) was offered followed by 4e secondaire in 2011 and 5e secondaire in 2012. This sector offers a challenging academic programme leading the students to take High
School leaving exams in view of obtaining the Diplôme d'Études Secondaires, Formation
générale from the Ministère de l'Éducation, des Loisirs et Sports du Quebec.
This is accomplished within the context of Christian life training that features:
- Days starting and finishing with prayer.
- Student-led assemblies aimed at helping students grow spiritually and featuring Bible-reading, songs, prayer and occasionally Christian guest speakers.
- Assemblies marking special events in the Christian calendar.
- Bible as an academic course.
- Teachers, who must fully endorse the Statement of Faith of the school, present a Christian world and life view in all of their courses. Thus, God's truth is integrated into the entire curriculum. The result is that, although we follow the Ministry of Education's programme and prepare our students for Quebec High School leaving examinations, we are truly offering a Christian education at Emmanuel, from Kindergarten through to High School.
Emmanuel follows the system laid down by the Ministère de l'Éducation in its Régime Pédagogique for the Province of Quebec. The school's program features:
- A Science and Mathematics programme designed to prepare capable students for entry into Health Sciences or Pure and Applied Sciences at the Cegep level. As in all English language Quebec schools, this curriculum is in transition.
- Access to a modern, up-to-date computers for class assignments and course work.
- Supervised study periods after school.
- An entrepreneurship programme led by the students.
- Annual Public Speaking contest as part of the French curriculum. Winners proceed to finals against other schools.
- A Creative Arts programme at all grade levels.
- After-school sport programme.
- An annual Art Festival featuring the talent and accomplishment of our students.
- An active student council.
